As a parent or guardian, you play a key role in the health of your child by helping to ensure that he or she receives quality dental care. The Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates that proof of three dental examinations during your child’s school years (entry into school K or grade 1, grade 3, and grade 7) be submitted to your child’s school. The Pennsylvania School Health Program offers supplemental school dental screenings, or the dental exams may be done at a private provider at your expense. Exams for that grade level must be dated no earlier than one year prior to the start of that school year. If this is not possible, the school district will arrange to have the State Mandated Screening performed by the school dentist/hygienist free of charge. The dentist/hygienist is part of the Hamilton Health organization in Newport. This screening will be scheduled at a later date for students in grades 1, 3, and 7 who have not been examined by their private dentist or the in-school dentist/hygienist from Hamilton Health Center.
Hamilton Health Center is offering an option for students who do not have a personal dentist or desire dental services beyond the state mandated screening. The in-school dental program through Hamilton Health will be done during school hours at the Greenwood Elementary School and Greenwood Middle School/High School. This provision will accommodate students who have no insurance, are under insured, or have dental insurance. Dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride application, sealants, and restorative care are now offered for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Hamilton Health will make a referral for any restorative care to be provided at the dental office of your choice or at the Hamilton Health Office in Newport after the examination. Restorative care includes fillings, and/or extractions.
If you are interested in the in-school preventative care program provided by Hamilton Health, forms are attached and are also available on the school website. A new form must be completed by you for each school year and all requested information (including insurance coverage) must be complete. Hamilton Health is scheduled to begin examinations October 31, November 7 and 11, 2022.
