Dear Greenwood School District Families,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer! It is hard to believe it is already August. I am appreciative of the gracious welcome from so many people since my start on July 1st. Greenwood is a special place with so much to celebrate and so many opportunities for students to learn and grow. I want you to know that nothing is more important to me than providing that continued atmosphere. I have had the opportunity to meet with many groups within the District since my start and I am looking forward to meeting you as well as additional members of our community and (most importantly) our students! I truly value building relationships with students, their families, and the community. We have some incredibly dedicated and hardworking people that I have had the pleasure of working with this past month. The buildings are just about ready for the start of the year. There are some “save the dates” at the bottom of this letter. I cannot wait to see the schools in action. I want to be sure to highlight some things that you may be noticing around the district over this very busy summer:

  • There was an issue at the elementary school regarding drainage. Pipes required replacing and drains were put in to create an updated system for drainage. Some concrete in front of the school is being replaced that was taken up in the process. After we perform a feasibility evaluation for ADA compliance, we will be looking at repairing the rest of the sidewalk areas.
  • The building that will be our new administration office is close to being finished. We are hoping to have an opportunity for the community to view the building toward the end of September. More details will be shared as we have definite plans for an open house.

We are continuing to evaluate and prioritize capital improvements to the Greenwood campus,
and we will be looking for input from stakeholders within our community as we do. We will also be working on our District Comprehensive Plan in the next few months. Stakeholder input will be valuable throughout the process as well.  I look forward to working with students, teachers, support staff, administrators, school board members, and the community to build upon the success of our school district. I’m truly grateful for the privilege of serving as your new Superintendent!  Enjoy the rest of your summer.  See you soon!

Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Murphy-Kahn (Dr. M-K)
Superintendent
